Holiday Gift Ideas for Your Child’s Teacher
Acknowledging your child’s teacher with a token of thanks from your family is a great way to let the teacher in your child’s life know that she or he is important and that their work is truly valued by you. After all, your child spends a lot of time with his teacher. Teachers educate, but they also nurture children (when they have skinned knees, feel homesick etc). I am blessed that my son has a great kindergarten teacher and assistant. They create a warm and caring environment for my son. This holiday we will be giving them gifts as a small token of our appreciation for their dedication to their work, for making my son feel welcomed and cared about, and for providing non-stop energy for all of the children in the classroom every school day through out the year.
Traditionally we purchase a gift for our son’s teachers, but we also have our son make cards. Then I write a heartfelt thank you in each card. A homemade card by your child and a thoughtful note inside from the parent(s) is a great gift in itself.
Here are teacher gift ideas:
Homemade Gifts: a hand crafted card made by your child, a poem, baked goods, a video or scrapbook thank you from all the kids in the class (clearly this needs to be worked on in advance), or a homemade book mark made from paper or bead work.
Moonstruck Chocolates: If your child’s teacher is a chocolate lover, Moonstruck Chocolates are divine. They have some great, ready-made gifts. The crescent moon box, critter collection, and the organic double dark hot chocolate are a few to get you started.
Pure Beeswax Candles: Pure beeswax candles have a heavenly scent, are non-toxic, and are quite beautiful. A pair of taper candles coupled with a jar of honey would be a real treat.
A hand-knit scarf: If you don’t have the time (or the talent) to whip up a hand-knit scarf you are still in luck! There are many talented artists at Etsy that offer beautiful knit scarves. Here are some of my favorites: Red Passion Fringed Scarf by Counting Stitches, a Farrah Scaflette by Nanda Handcrafted, and the Stay Put Chocolate Brown Scarf by Phyl Phil.
A bottle of wine can be something that the teacher can share with their family. Here are some suggestions: Acacia Pinot Noir Carneros, Bonterra Organic Chardonnay or Cabernet, and BV Chardonnay Carneros Reserve.
Personalized Note Cards: There are many great sources online for custom note cards. Whisker Graphics offers personalized note cards that you can print at home. You choose a design, the text, and they email you the pdf file that you can use to print the cards yourself. For $5.00 you can’t beat it.
A gift certificate: to a local coffee shop, restaurant, book store, video store, health food store, or boutique. You can also be creative in choosing how you present the gift card. Attach the coffee shop card to a bag of coffee beans or in a great coffee mug, put the restaurant card in a set of napkins tied with a bow, a book store gift card can be paired with a great book mark, a health food store gift certificate given in a cool reusable bag.
